I have entered the above fern photograph in to the Chicago Botanic Garden Spring Photography Contest. It’s a bit older, but still one of my favorites taken at the gardens. Wish me luck!
Fog is pretty rare in Chicago. It only comes around under very specific circumstances, but the majority of the times I’ve seen it is due to a quick thaw. The ground around where I live was still covered with snow at the end of February, and still is in some places, until we suddenly jumped to above freezing and in to the 40’s and 50’s once March came around. So on the evening of March 8 my neighborhood was under a thick layer of fog, we hit the low 60’s for the first time in 2010 on March 10. The camera didn’t actually capture the fog as thick as it was to the eye, and just a block further east along a major thoroughfare in my city it was very dense and hard to see. The fog lingered until late in the morning on March 9, so I was able to run in the last bits before the sun came around and burned it away.
